Dancia International Reading Dance Showcase 2010!

A fantastic day was had by all at The Dancia International Reading Dance Showcase 2010 at Rivermead Leisure Complex.
The day kicked off with an opening address by local dance teacher turned X-Factor star, Danyl Johnson. Danyl was very much among friends, having been a regular teacher at both Mo’s Stage School and Starmaker, pupils of which were performing at the event.
There then followed 6.5 hours of back-to-back dance performances from 38 Reading-based dance schools and clubs – 49 performances in all!! The audience was treated to a feast of dance styles ranging from Bollywood to Ballroom, Street to Salsa and Modern to Mambo. Please click for the full performance schedule.
For anyone wanting to get more actively involved in the day, there was a full schedule of free taster classes, and visitors of all ages were trying out Bellydancing, Tap, Ceroc, Street Jazz, Scottish Country Dancing and much more.
For those looking for a dance school for their child, or wanting to take up a new dance style themselves, there was a busy exhibition area. 23 organisations hired exhibition space, and members of the public were able to speak to dance and drama teachers face to face about their classes. Please click here for a full list of exhibitors.
Dancia Reading, the organisers of the event, took up a large area of the venue selling Pineapple Dancewear and other dance-related items from their Caversham-based store. Jude Chapman, owner of Dancia Reading, said: "The Pineapple range proved to be a real hit at the Reading Dance Showcase this year. There was also a huge amount of interest in Dancia Reading, and nearly 50 people applied to join our exclusive loyalty card scheme."
Dancia Reading has donated all of the £4,000 profit from the event to a consortium of small local charities called RACT.
